Leuts were used for fishing and transporting cargo. Although Leut has been widely utilized throughout eastern Adriatic, it changed its appearance based on regional influences.

Leut has an overall length between seven and twelve meters. Its beam is about one third of its length and typically has a mast with lateen type sail.
Leut hull has a slender shape. Stem post is rounded forward. Bow is usually equipped with a pulpit. Sometimes it is outfitted with a small bowsprit for the purpose of holding a jib and for assisting as a rail for disembarkement and access.
