Regata sailing at island Losinj (North Adriatic sea) started in 19th century on adopted life-boats later called “Losinj pasara” or “Passera lusignana”.
Due to mild weather conditions in Losinj bay without great waves and with gentle winds, Losinj pasara was built as a light sailboat with very large sail (on LOA of 5m sail area coul be up to 27 m2) area and a bit deaper kiel. It had so called “Marconi sail”. Length of the boat was from 4m up to 6m. Usualy there was movable balast tank weighted up to 250 kg. Three crew members (helmsman, sail trimmer and one in charge for moving additional balast).
Based on “Losinj pasara”, national sailboat class L-5 was constructed.
